Baptism, symbolizing our participation in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, is full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit in Christ’s Body the Church. In it, we are “marked as Christ’s own forever.” Baptism is appropriate at any age, usually occurs during Sunday morning services, and is especially fitting at the Feasts of Easter, Pentecost, All Saints’, and the Baptism of our Lord. It is also possible to schedule baptisms on other Sundays of the year to accommodate family and friends who might be traveling from out of town.
Baptism is preceded by several baptismal preparation classes that help parents and participants understand the meaning and significance of the rite and of the baptismal covenant, or promises we make.
